[Objective] To establish a stable and reproducible and simple local intracerebral hematoma in rabbits. [Methods] After sterotactically placing a cannula into the outboard area of ganglia , different volume of fresh unclotted blood was injected in with a micro pump. The intracerebral hematoma was developed by the repetitious injection method, in which the first clot could block the actual hematoma back along the needle track . The metamorphosis of hematoma and perihematoma histological changes was observed and the hematoma volume was measured on serial freezing sections . [Results] Hematoma was located in outboard area of ganglia , inner area of cerebral cortex and front lateral area of internal capsule . 100% (24/24) intracerebral hemorrhage was established without rupturing into ventrcular system ,subarachnoid or subdural space in 0.3ml group . While only 50.0% (4/8) intracerebral hemorrhage was established in 0.5ml group. The hematoma was made of red cells and its size was varied with the injected blood volume and the time for hematoma formation (p<0.05).Theperihematoma edema could be found in white matter 6h after blood injection .[Conclutions] In this experiment , the intracerebral hematoma model in rabbits was stable and reproduciable .This modle with moderate size of 0.3ml intracerebrel hematoma fits for further quantitative investication.[KEY WORDS] intracerebral hematoma, disease modles,rabbit...
