Objective To investigate the clinical values of DNA euploit and cell cycle analysis in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignent pleural fluids by Flow Cytometry(FCM).Methods By FCM, the DNA index, cell cycle distribution and DNA aneuploidy in malignant(13 cases) and benign(17 cases) pleural fluids were studied. Results DNA aneuploidy in benign and malignant pleural fluids were 12%(2/7) and 62%(8/13), respectively (P<0.05).The sensitivity was 62%, and the specificity was 88% in diagnosis malignant pleural fluids. DNA index in benign and malignant pleural fluids were 1.07+0.09 and 1.18+ 0.18;G2/M phase fraction were 1.24+1.63 and 3.90+4.13, respectively. Conclusions DNA euploid and cell cycle analysis have importantvalues in distinguishing benign pleural fluids from malignant pleural fluids.
