Objective: This study was designed to examine the level of the vascular epithelial growth factor (VEGF) in serum and VEGF expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissue and to evaluate the relationship between VEGF in Serum and that of neoplasmatic tissue. Methods: The expression of VEGF was detected in 31 NSCLC tissues by immunohistochemical staining (LSAB Methods). Serum VEGF before operation in the same 31 patients was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. And serum form 17 cases with benign pulmonary lesions and 20 healthy persons were also detected as control groups. Results: Positive immunostaining of VEGF in NSCLC tissue was observed in 26 cases (83.9%), high expression of VEGF in NSCLC tissue was 17 cases (54.5%). High expression in NSCLC tissue had no significant difference comparing with the high level of serum VEGF by statistic analysis, P>0.05, there was a positive correlation between them, rs'=0.8592,P<0.01.Conclusion: The level of serum VEGF changed as same as the expression of VEGF in NSCLC tissue, it was possible that the detection of serum VEGF would take the place of that of NSCLC tissue VEGF. It would play an important role in clinic treatment and prognosis in future.
