Objective To investigate the effects of salvia miltiorrhiza solution(SMS) on endotoxemia and hepatic CD14 expression after obstructive jaundice(OJ). Methods With the model of obstructive jaundice in rat, the value of plasma endotoxin(ET) ,the permeability of terminal ileum and the hepatic CD14mRNA expression were examined in rats with or without intravenous injection of SMS. Results After 7 or 14 days' OJ, the hepatic injury appeared with the elevation of ALT, TB and the decrease of ALB. The value of plasma ET was increased with the prolongation of OJ. The permeability of terminal ileum and the hepatic CD14mRNA expression were more increased than that of sham group. However the ALT and TB were decreased and the permeability of terminal ileum was ameliorated after 7 or 14 days' intravenous injection of SMS. The hepatic CD14mRNA expression was simultaneously decreased. Conclusions Salvia Miltiorrhiza solution could protects the liver from hepatic injury with OJ and could decreased the value of intestinal ET. The mechanism may be the amelioration of the permeability of terminal ileum, reducing the absorption of ET and depressing the hepatic CD14mRNA expression.
