Study on Function and Mechanism of Qi Ju Decoction for Preventing Left Ventricular HypertrophyObjective To explore the function and mechanism of Qi Ju decoction for preventing left ventricular hypertrophy.Methods Hypertensive rat models were established by the operation method of abdominal aorta constriction . Rats were randomly classified into three groups: Qi Ju decoction, benazepril and distilled water after hypertensive models were made. Every group was made up of 10 models. Corresponding medicine of 20 times dose comparing with humen body was given and blood pressure was measured at 3,6,9 and 12 weeks. Rats were put into death, their hearts were taken out from chest quickly and then atrium and right ventricle were sheared off accurately at 12 weeks. Left ventricular weight, microstructure, collagen content and calcineurin activation of heart were detected in every one.Results Qi Ju decoction reduced left ventricular weight, lowered blood pressure, reduced hyperplasia ofcollagen and calcineurin activation, and made microstructure stable as well. Compared with benazepril , the function of lowering calcineurin activation of Qi Ju decoction was stronger (p < 0.05) , but the function of lowering left ventricular weight was weaker (p < 0.05 ) and the action of lowering hyperplasia of collagen was similar (p > 0.05) .Conclusion This observation showed that Qi Ju decoction could Prevent left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), which mechanism was related to both reduction of blood pressure and calcineurin activation. The function of preventing LVH and lowering hypertension in Qi Ju decoction group was relatively weaker than in benazepril one.
