Diabetes is a major health problem, affecting 3% of the population worldwide. Over 90% of patients with diabetes have type II diabetes. It's very important to protect and treat diabetes actively.Historical records reveal that in traditional medical systems, the root of Panax ginseng, or Asian ginseng has been used as a tonix, often taken for treating all kinds of weak symptom, giving first aid treatment for shock, producing blood and antidiabetes on clinical. It has notable effects. The chemical constitution of Panax ginseng is very complicate. Ginsenosides is one of the essential components in ginseng. During the last several years, it's often used traditional methods to extract and isolate ginsenosides, which have many defects and not suitable for industrial production. Based on the previous researches, we improved the method. Macro reticular resin NKA-12 was chosen for separating ginsenosides, which not only separated the ginsenosides to two groups, but also broke the tradition that people often use the macro reticular resin D101. Moreover, plenty of Ginsenoside Re has been obtained. This method is simple, nonpoisonous, and provided the theory basis for Ginsenoside Re industrial production. In separating ginsenosides, it's the first time used ODS. Since this kind of packing only is used in HPLC, this time the purpose is to establish the intact and complete conditions for ginsenosides isolation. Now some experiments confirmed that ODS have good effects on separating ginsenosides. During the isolation, eight kinds of ginsenosides have been obtained. And HPLC analysis was performed hi our laboratory to confirm that Ginsenoside Rd had a purity of >99%. This method is very easy, and is also suits of industrial production.Panax ginseng has many activities, such as anti-fatigue, anti-ageing, anticancer, anti-radiation, improving microcirculation and restraining blood platelet condense etc. But the repots that ginseng can lower blood sugar are not many. So we did some experiments to pick out the ginsenosides, which passes this kind of activity. The studies have shown that ginsenosides have inhibitory effects on a -glucose enzyme, but not significantly. Ginsenoside Re has very notable inhibitory effects on a -amylase. Thefollowing experiment demonstrated that the extraction of ginseng berries has more strongly inhibitory effects on a-amylase. And at the concentration of 1mg/ml, it almost inhibited 98.4% activity of a-amylase. These experiments provided theory basis for research on the activity of ginseng for lowering blood sugar. Now plenty of Re and the extraction of ginseng berries have been used for in-vivo pharmacology study. Furthermore, the extraction of ginseng berries has been made into capsules, and used for clinical research.
