Objective: To investigate the expression and relationship of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and CerbB-2 oncogene in human thyroid tumor.Method: We collect 54 specimens of thyroid tumor with age distribution 16-73 years old (average 44.36). Among them, there are malignant tumor 34 example (4 male,30 female),thyroid adenoma 10 example(4 male,6 female ),nodular goiter 10 example(2 male,8 female).Histology classification of malignant tumors: papillary carcinoma 25 example include with metastasis of lymph node 11 example, follicular carcinoma 6 example, undifferentiated carcinoma 3 example. By using immunohistochemical SP method detect all tissues in 24 hours as it was resected, according to depth of stain and positive cell percentage the case were divided five grades.Results: The positive rate of ER was 82.61%(19/23) in papillary carcinoma, 16.67%(l/6) in follicular carcinoma, 33.33%(l/3) in undifferentiated carcinoma, 30.00%(3/10) in thyroid adenoma, 10.00%(1/10) in nodular goiter. The positive rate of PR was 82.61% (19/23), 33.33%(2/6), 0(0/3), 20.00%(2/10),20.00%(2/10) respectively, the positive of PR was 82.61%(19/23),16.67%(l/6),0(0/3), 30.00% (3/10), 20.00%(2/10) respectively. The result showed that the expression of ER, PR and CerbB-2 in papillary carcinoma was significantly higher than other tumors (p<0.05) except for ER in undifferentiated carcinoma. The positive rate of ER, PR and CerbB-2 in papillary carcinoma with metastasis of lymph node was lower than those with no, but there wasn't significant different. Analysis of stain intensity, we found significant discrepancy between papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma, adenoma, nodular goiter in ER expression. There was also significant different between papillary carcinoma and adenoma, nodular goiter in PR expression. A significant discrepancy was got between papillary carcinoma and nodular goiter in CerbB-2 expression. After stain grade,significance of ER, PR and CerbB-2 become greater between papillary carcinoma and adenoma, nodular goiter. Moreover, there was significant discrepancy between papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma in CerbB-2 expression. The expression of ER, PR and CerbB-2 has no association with age and sex. The correlation coefficient was 0.908,0.884,0.940 among ER, PR and CerbB-2 that show great significance (p<0.01).Conclusion: ER, PR and CerbB-2 have higher positive expression in papillary carcinoma of thyroid that suggests action of induction, regulation and cooperation among them. Papillary carcinoma of thyroid may be a kind of female hormone-depended tumor that offer a new way of diagnosis and therapy for us.
