Objectives: To investigate the expression of E-selectin, P-selectin, L-selectin, neural cell adhesion molecule(NCAM), intercellular adhesion molecule(ICAM-l), vascular cell adhesion molecule(VCAM-l), CD44v6 and syndecan-1 in gliomas and the relation between the adhesion molecules and gliomas.Materials and Methods: The expression of E-selectin, P-selectin, L-selectin, CD44v6 are detected in parrafm sections by using SP immunohistochemical method, and the expression of neural cell adhesion molecule(NCAM), intercellular adhesion molecule(ICAM-l),vascular cell adhesion molecule(VCAM-l) and syndecan-1 are dectected in frozen sections by using SP immunohistochemical method.Results: (l)the positive expression rate of E-selectin and P-selectin in gliomas are significantly higer than in control group (P < 0.05 ) ,and also the expression rate of E-selectin in gliomas of grade are significantly lower than that in gliomas of grade (P<0.05) .But there is no differcence of the expression of L-selectin in gliomas and control group (P > 0.05 ) . CD44v6 is not expressed in glioms. (2) the positive expression rate of neural cell adhesion molecule(NCAM) in gliomas of grade is higer than it in gliomas of grade (P < 0.05 ) .The expression rate of intercellular adhesion molecule(ICAM-l)and vascular cell adhesion molecule(VCAM-l) in gliomas are higher than in controlgroup (P < 0.05) , and the expression rate of syndecan-1 in gliomas are lower than in control group. There are no differences of expression of ICAM-1 ,VCAM-1 and syndecan-1 between grade and grade of glioma group (P> 0.05).Conclusions: E-selectin, P-selectin, neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM), intercellular adhesion molecule(ICAM-l), vascular cell adhesion molecule(VCAM-l) and syndecan-1 may be correlated to the infiltration and progression of glioma, the negative expression of CD44v6 may be correlated to the absence of metastasis outside the skull of the gliomas. There is no relation between the L-selectin and glioma.
