The root tuber of the Cynanchum auriculatum Royle ex Wight of the genus ofCynanchum in the family of Asclepladaceae is the main origin of the TCM drug Baishou-wu. The total glycosides of the Cynanchum auriculatum and its capsule preparationare studied in this thesis. The thesis is divided into three chapters: Chapter 1 is a review of the studies on the chemical constituents of C21steroidal glycosides; a review of the research in preparation technology and qualitycontrol standard of the total glycosides for capsule. Chapter2studiesontheextraction,separation,preparationofcynauricuosideA. Cynauricuoside A is the characteristic and main effective constituents ofCynanchum auriculatum. It is also the symbol constituents to contol the quality ofthe drug. Chapter 3 the preparation of total glycosides for Baishouwu capsule. The total glycosides' extraction method and purification method are studied.And studies on the preparation tecnology of the total glycosides for Baishouwucapsule. Chapter 4 discusses the sutudies on quality control standard of the totalglycosides for Baishouwu capsule. Based on the Baishouwu medicinal material quality control standard. Two novelmethods for the quantitative determination of C21 steroidal glycosides in Baishouwucapsule--colorimetric method and RP-HPLC method, are established. The colorimetricmethod used cynauriculoside A as the standard substance to detect the toalglycosides,and it used vanillin-vitriol solution as the reagent.The HPLC methoddetected Cynauricuoside Awith acetonitrile-water as mobile phase,and the wavelengthof detector was set at 281nm.The methods can be used as an objective standard toestimate the quantity of the total glycosides for Baishouwu capsule.
