Objective: To study the experience in the diagnosis and treatment of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and elevate the ability on diagnosis and treatment of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.Methods: A total of 64 cases of PMC undergoing surgical treatment in our hospital from January l991 to January 2004 were reviewed retrospectively.Results: All cases were confirmed by pathological exam .Only one case was preoperately diagnosed.Fifty cases were diagnosed by frozen section .Neck lymph node metastasis were found in two cases. The postoperative recurrence was found in three cases in follow-up cases.One case was died of bone and brain metastasis . Conclusions: (1)Papillary thyroid microcarcinomas are often occult and dificullt to be diagnosed preoperately.Most of them were diagnosed by frozen section .They usually have favourable prognosis. Infiltration obviously influences the prognosis.(2)Surgery is the most important treatment.We should decide the therapy according to age,infiltration,number of focus and lymph node metastasis.
