Objective: To learn the distribution and morphology of Human Papillomavirus 16 (HPVI6) in the lesions of Bowenoid papulosis (BP) and Bowen's Disease (BD).Methods: HPV16DNA were detected with in situ hybridization with biotinylated nucleic probes in 30 cases BP and 15 cases BD. P21 WAF1,Ki-67 proteins were examined with immunohistochemical SP method in the same specimens. Results: HPV16 DNA were positive in 13 of 30 cases BP and 6 of 15 cases BD. HPV scatters throughout the whole epidermis in BP and BD, and most of HPVDNA were episomal form in BP and BD. In BD, HPV16 could infect basal cells and showed integrated form. Both of the expression of p21 WAF1 protein and Ki-67 protein , no significant difference was observed between BP and BD lesions (P >0. 05).Conclusions: There were some of differences about the distribution and morphology of HPV16 in the lesions of Bowenoid papulosis and Bowen's Disease. To distinguish is mainly based on the clinical symptoms between BP and BD.
