Objective: To investigate the expression of MAP-2 and NF200 in rat hippocampus after long-term Alcohol exposure, and observed the effects ofCoQ10 on it.Method: 60 rats were randomized into 3 groups, 12 for normal control (N), 24 rats were orally exposed to high dosage of alcohol (HA, 6mg/kg/d), Low dosage of alcohol was given to the other 24 rats (LA, 2mg/kg/d). 5 weeks later, HA was randomized into HA1 (continue with alcohol) and HA2 (alcohol and CoQ10), so as LA. After another 5 weeks, Brain sections from control and exposed rats were processed by immunohistochemistry, to observe the quantitative changes of expression of MAP-2 and NF200 in hippocampus. Results: (1) After long-term exposure of alcohol the immunoreactivities in MAP-2 and NF200 were decreased markedly, especially in HA1 and HA2 (p<0.01), (2) There are also significantdifferences between HAl and LAI in MAP-2 immunoreactivities (p<0.05). There is no difference between HAl and LAI in NF200 (P>0.05). After taking CoQ10, (3) we found significant increase in MAP-2 immunoreactivities in LA2. (4) Tiiere is no difference between HAl and HA2 (P>0.05).Conclusion: Long-term alcohol exposure decreases the quantity of MAP-2 and NF200 in aged rat hippocampus. And have positive relationship with dosage of alcohol. Coenzyme Q10 has a curative action on the central nerve damages induced by long-term alcohol exposure.
