The Thought Of The Scientific Nature Of Chinese Medicine

Science and Civilization in China (shorted SCC) is a great works , edited by Joseph Needham. While lucubrating the ancient science and technology of China, Doctor Needham, a scholar disciplined by the systemic west science, was alwaysconfused by a problem-that is why latter-day science, especially themathematical hypothesis of the nature and all advanced technology, only came into being in the west of Galileo' s epoch. Many scholars were interested in this problem. They tried their best to research and answer the question in different points of view. The relative problems about scientific revolution and evolvement of Chinese science and technology are called "the Needham problem".This dissertation tries to explain "the Needham problem" from the view of medicine, discuss and prove that Chinese medicine is scientific from the view of scientific and technical philosophy. In the paper, the author firstly introduced the Chinese realization of latter-day' science. After these, the paper dwelt on the main science criterion: the provable criterion , the disprovable criterion, the historicism criterion and so on. The author generalized and discussed what the science was in the view of Doctor Needham fully. On the basis of the mentioned above, the author advanced her own view of science. In order to understand the meaning of science, the author concluded the characters of science and illustrated the developmental current and characteristic of neoteric science.In second chapter the paper expatiated the general developmental situation of the definition-medicine, summed up the developmental current and characteristic of modern medicine.In third chapter, the paper probed into the relation between Chinese medicine and the science. Needham's argumentation about Chinese medicine was an trenchant proof which prove Chinese medicine is scientific. Thenceforth, the author completely introduced the basic configuration, characteristic and methodology of Chinese medicine, the subject's essence and its' methodology of Chinese medicine. At theoretical and methodological angle, the authorargued the scientific essence of Chinese medicine completely and detailedly.Finally, after the several chapters, the paper proved that traditional Chinese medicine is ancient science, modern Chinese medicine includes abundant science kernel, and induced that Chinese medicine is the science.By reading SCC, it is contributive to understand human being's different civilization, and it's also the first chance that the west readers could completely know the Chinese contribution to the world culture. Today argued the Needham Problem from medical angle, we also illuminate the diversity of culture and plurality of science in human being's socie..y. Today we develop Chinese medicine, accelerate its' modernization, we must prove it's scientific, and that's where the shoe pinches.
