[ Obejective ] : To observe the expressions and distributions of matrix metalloproteinases (mmp-2 , mmp-3) and tissue inhibitor of metalloprotainases (TIMP-2) in normal human trabecular meshwork cells and ciliary body cells.[Methods] : Ten normal human eyes were enucleated and made into eyeball. After paraffin-embeded, the slide were stained with hematoxylin-eosin(HE) to observe the histology form and selected the samples. After depigmenting of the normal human eyes, an immunohistochemical SABC technique was employed to detect the presence and distribution of mmp-2 , mmp-3 , and timp-2 in normal human trabecular meshwork cells and ciliary body cells.[Results]: Both normal human trabecular meshwork cells and ciliary body cells can express mmp-2,mmp-3 and timp-2, but the quantity of these mmps and timp were different.[Conclusions]: MMP-2,MMP-3,TIMP-2 all can be detected in both trabecular meshwork cells and ciliary body cells, this suggested they may play roles in outflowing-way of humour. And different mmps expresses differently in normalhuman trabecular meshwork cells and ciliary body cells. It may be one of the reasons that the classic trabecular outflow pathway is more important than the uveoscleral outflow pathway in the aqueous humor out- flow.
