Objective: To study the therapeutic effect of metronidazole on wound healing in partial thickness burn rats, identify whether metronidazole can promote the wound healing and the excretion of bFGF in partial thickness burn rats, and offer an basis for clinical administrationMethods: partial thickness burns with 20% of total body surface were made in 20 rats, which were randomly divided into 2 groups. The experimental group was treated with oralling metronidazole 180mg/kg(metronidazole was suspended using 1% carboxymethylcellulose sodium solution), and the control group was treated with the same dose of 1% carboxymethylcellulose sodium solution, once a day until complete healing of the burned wound. The healing time were compared, the growth of granulation tissue and collagen fibers were evaluated under light microscope, and the growth of fibroblast was observed under transmission electron microscope. Imrnunohistochernistry(SP method) was employed to detect the expression of bFGF in fibroblast.Result: All rats survived until wound healings were completed. 1 The healing time of experimental group(20.2±1.75 days) were shorter than that of control group(22.2 ± 2.30 days) (P < 0.05 ) . 2 Light microscope observation showed that the growth of granulation tissue and collagen fibers of experimental group were much better than that of control group. 3 Transmission electron microscope showed that the fiberblast growh was obviously better in the experimental group. 4 The expression intensity of bFGF in the experimental group was higher than control group, The bFGF M0D(mean optical density) value in experimental group was significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.05 ) .Conclusion: 1 The oral administration of metronidazole can promote the formation of granulation in partial thickness burn wound with less side effect. 2 The oral administration of metronidazole can promote the excretion of bFGF in partial thickness burn wound . 3 The oral administration of metronidazole can promote reepithelialization of partial thickness burn wound...
