Objective: To evaluate the method and result of thyroid arteries embolization as atherapy for Graves disease.Method: Twenty-six patients had embolized twenty-nine times. The patients weredivided into group A, group B. Patients(17 cases) of group A had their superiorthyroid arteries embolized with PVA and gelfoam or wreath spring. Patients(12cases)of group B had their superior thyroid arteries add one or two thyroid arteriesembolized with PVA and wreath spring. Pre and post procedure thyroid hormone andthe blood flow parameters of thyroid arteries were monitored. The clinical effect oftherapy were evaluated.Result: In group A, 9 patients were healed, 8 patients were unhealed. In group B,11patients were healed, 1 patients were unhealed. The clinical effect between group Aand group B show significant difference. Pre and post procedure, the change of thyroidhormone show significant difference. After thyroid arteries embolization, the size andvascularity of thyroids were reduced. Thyroid arteries showed shrinkage andstoppages blood flow at remobilization size. The changes of RI, blood parameters ofVmax, Q pre and post procedure turned to be statistically significant. Conclusion: 1. Embolized three or four thyroid arteries has better clinical effect thanembolized two thyroid arteries in 2.The color Doppler sonography plays an importantrole for preoperation diagnosis and predicting thr prognosis.
