Objective: To investigate the role and relationship of MK,C0X-2 and MVD in the growth and angiogenesis of pancreatic carcinomas(PCs) and discuss their clinical significance.Method: The expressions of MK,COX-2,CD31 were detected by immunohistochemical technique in 52 cases of human pancreatic carcinoma and 10 cases of non-tumor pancreatic tissue. The relationships between their expressions and the clinical pathological characteristics were analyzed statistically. Results: (1 )In 52 cases of human pancreatic carcinoma, the positive rate of MK was 71.1%.The positive rate in 10 cases of non-tumor pancreatic tissues was 0%.The difference between them had notably statistical significance(p<0.05). The positive expression of MK had a correlation with clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of pancreatic carcinomas (p<0.05). (2)In 52 cases of human pancreatic carcinoma, the positive rate of COX-2 was 76.9%.The positive rate in 10 cases of non-tumor pancreatic tissues was 10%.The difference between them had notably statistical significance(p<0.05).The positive expression of COX-2 had a correlation with clinical stage and lymphnode metastasis of pancreatic carcinomas(p<0.05). (3) In 52 cases of human pancreatic carcinoma, the value of MVD(CD31 marked) was 34.88±11.41, in 10 cases of non-tumor pancreatic tissue, the value of MVD was 15.80±5.14. There was a statistical difference (p<0.05). MVD had a correlation with clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of pancreatic carcinomas (p<0.05). (4)There was a statistical correlation between MK and MVD(p < 0.01). The expression of COX-2 and MVD had a significant correlation(p<0.01). No significant relationship between MK and COX-2 was found (p>0.01). (5)In the survival rate analysis, MK,COX-2,MVD had an intimate relationship with the prognosis of patients(p < 0.01)Conclusions: In human pancreatic carcinomas, the expressions of MK,COX-2,MVD were closely correlated with clinical stage and lymph node metastasis.MK and COX-2 play important roles in the angiogenesis of pancreatic carcinoma. The expressions of MK,COX-2 and MVD have a significant correlation with tumor growth angiogenesis and prognosis, so they may act as significant indicators for the biological feature of pancreatic carcinoma.
