| Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the clinicopathologic factors related to local recurrence following curative surgery for rectal cancer, and to improve the treatment effects. Methods: The clinicopathologic factors and follow-up data of 257 cases of rectal cancers after surgical treatment from 1995 to 2002 were retrospectively analyzed by univariate and mutivariate methods. Results: Rate of local recurrence was 18.7%. Univariate analysis showed that age, Dukes'stage, lymph node metastasis and level of CEA were significantly associated with local recurrence after operation. Mutivariate analysis showed that age and lymph node metastasis closely related to local recurrence after operation. Conclusions: lymph node metastasis and age are very important prognostic factors for local recurrence after operation. |
