Objective: The aim of the study was (1)to investigate the relationship between the Insertion/Deletion Polymorphism of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Gene and different kinds of severe preeclampsia(S-PE), so that to further find out the pathogenesis of early onset severe preeclampsia(EOSP);(2)to investigate the relationship between the Insertion/Deletion Polymorphism of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Gene and kidney lesion, in order to find out the molecular mechanism of the kidney lesion resulting from severe preeclampsia. Methods: ACE genotyping with polymorase chain reaction(PCR) was performed in 63 patients with S-PE and 40 normal pregnant women. Results: (1) The frequencies of DD genotype and deletion allele showed no significant differences between patients with S-PE and normal pregnant women, x~2 were 2.1218, 2. 0019, respectively (P>0. 05). (2) The frequencies of DD genotype and deletion allele showed no significant differences between groups of EOSP and late onset severe preeclampsia(LOSP), x We 1. 8333, 1. 6805, respectively (P>0. 05). (3) The frequencies of DD genotype and deletion allele among S-PE complicated with kidney lesion were higher than those among S-PE without kidney lesion and normal pregnant women, x~2 were 18.2952, 16.6012;15.3209,13.3054 respectively (P<0. 05). The frequencies of DD genotype and deletion allele showed no significant differences between S-PE without kidney lesion and normal controls, U_C was 0.0283, x~2 was 0.2590(P>0.05). Conclusions:Although I/D polymorphism of ACE gene has no relationshipwith the type of severe preeclampsia, it has some relationship with kidney lesion. DD genotype of ACE gene may individually act as a high risk predict for S-PE kidney lesion.
