Objective To explore whether Qiqi decoction has the protective effect against reperfusion injury on rats after cerebral ischemia. and to provide theoretical foundation for studying and developing Chinese new drugs. Methods Rats were randomly divided into Buyanghuanwu group , Qiqi high dosage group , Qiqi low dosage group, the model group and mimic operation group . Reversible bilateral carotid artery occlusion models were produced by the modified. and reperfusion was begun by ligating 15 minutes followed reperfusion 60 minutes .The studies were made through observed the effects of Qiqi decoction on the activities of MDA, GSH-PX, NO, NOS, Ca2+ Na+-K+-ATPase, in the samples of brain tissue and compared with Buyanghuanwu decoction on their protective effects respectively. Results The outcome indicate that Qiqi decoction can decrease the level of MDA and Ca2+ while improve the activities (P<0.01) of GSH-PX, NO, NOS and Na+-K+-ATPase in the samples of brain tissue. buyanghuanwu is better than Qiqi decoction in increasing the content of NO, GSH-Px and Na+-K+-ATPase (p<0.05)Conclusion The results of the experiment show that Qiqi decoction can counteract the damage from the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury . It own the protective action on the free radical and anti-oxidase and can antagonize calcium ion hypercharge and regulate the contents of nitric oxide and nitric oxide synthase in rats. Effect of buyanghuanwu is better than that of Qiqi decoction, indicating the reasonability of medicine in science of buyanghuanwu decoction.
