This dissertation describes the chemical and pharmacology study of Zanthoxylum nitidum (Roxb.) DC, especially the bio-assay guided isolation of anti-inflammatory and analgesic compounds, and the chemical investigation of Z. nitidum. From the titled plants, 35 compounds in total have been obtained and established, including 3 new compounds and 24 compounds isolated for the first time. On the basis of test for activity, it was found that the EtOH extract of Z. nitidum, crude alkaloids and 6 alkaloids, ZN-2, ZN-3, ZN-4, ZN-11, ZN-12 and ZN-13, demonstrated significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity in vivo. The evaluation of the quality of Z. nitidum distributed in different area by HPLC-UV method indicated that material grows in Qingzhou City and Yangchun City is of highest content of all the 9 main alkaloids, ZN-1, ZN-2, ZN-3, ZN-4, ZN-11, ZN-19, ZN-20, ZN-23 and ZN-35.
