Objective: To assess expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) andlatent membrane protein-1 (LMP-1) with prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Methods: The expression of VEGF and LMP-1 were Immunohistochemicallyexamined in 50 NPC section. Results: The positive expression rate of VEGF were 58 %, correlated with lymphnode metastasis(p<0.05). The positive expression rate of LMP-1 were 52%,correlated with lymph node metastasis (p<0.05). The expression of VEGF showed asignificant positive correction with the expression of LMP-1 (r=0.717, p<0.05). Thefactor predicting prognosis in NPC was N3, The positive expression of VEGF andLMP-1.Conclusions: VEGF and LMP-1 being highly expressed in NPC, is apt to be usedof predictor of prognosis. The induction of VEGF by LMP-1 contributes to themetastatic protential of NPC.
