Objective: To investigate the relation between chlamydia pneumoniae infection and the serum levels of gelatinase B (matrix metalloproteinase-9,MMP-9) in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD).Methods: To examine the serum concentrations of chlamydia pneumoniae immunoglobulin-A antibodies (CP-IgA) by using of enzyme linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) in 57 patients with CHD (CHD group, of which included 15 cases of acute myocardial infarction, 22 cases of unstable angina pectoris and 20 cases of stable angina pectoris) and 30 patients without CHD(control group) . At the same time, the levels of serum MMP-9 and its natural inhibitor TIMP-1 (tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1) were also measured with enzyme linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) among all selected subjects.Result: (1)Patients with CHD (68.42%) had significantly higher positive rate of CP-IgA than that of control(36.67%) (P<0.01), the positive rate of CP-IgA in AMI subgroup(86.67%) or in UAP subgroup(77.27%) were higher than those in SAP subgroup(45%) (P<0.05), But there were no statistic difference between AMI and UAP subgroup (p>0.05). (2) The serum concentrations of CP-IgA in CHD group(1.389±0.507) also higher compared with control group(0.981±0.482) (P<0.01).From SAP subgroup(1.094±0.521) and UAP subgroup(1.402±0.361) to AMI subgroup(1.795±0.543), the concentrations of CP-IgA increased with degree of severity of CHD(P<0.05).(3) The levels of serum MMP-9 in CHD group(274.54±73.59 ng/ml) were higher compared with those in control group...
