Backbround:Hypoxia is a common feature of most solid cancers, tumours adopt two ways to comform the low oxygen levers : glycolysis and angiogenesis. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1(HIF-1) is a transcription factor which present in most of mammal and human tissue in the hypoxia condition. HIF-1 alpha,is the only subunit which adjust the oxygen metabolism and determinate HIF's activity. HIF-1's target gene is related to tumor cells energy metabolism, angiogenesis, metastasis and Ion metabolism .It is very important that the HIF-1's position and function in oncologic pathology.Based on this we inspected the expression and significance of HIF-1αin epithelial ovarian neoplasms, it would provide some clues leading to effective diagnosis and treatment strategies for ovarian neoplasms.Part I Expression of HIF-1αin Epithelial Ovarian NeoplasmsObjective:To investigate the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α) in epithelial ovarian neoplasms and to analyze the relationships between the HIF-1αand the clinicopathological characteristics. Materials and Methods:1. The expression of HIF-1αproteins in 32 benign cystadenomas and 11 borderline tumors and 44 epithelial ovarian carcinomas was detected by immunohistochemistry, followed by light microscopic examination.2. The expression of HIF-1αproteins in benign cystadenomas and borderline tumors and epithelial ovarian carcinomas was analyzed, and the correlation was also analyzed between the expression of HIF-1αand the clinicopathological characteristics such as clinical stage, histological type ,lymphatic metastasis and pathologic grade.
