PD is a common neurodegenerative disease in middle and old age people and its incidence increases year by year. At present it is thought that the PD morbility results from genetic, environmental and aging factors affecting together. The massive application of herbicide PQ is one of most important environmental dangerous factors which induce the increase of incidence rate of PD. In our country PQ is a widely-used herbicide. The chemical constitution of PQ is extremely similar to MPP~+, the active metabolite of MPTP which is a known neurotoxin and their pathogenesis mechanism is also similar. Many epidemiological studies demonstrate long-term exposure to PQ obviously increases the risk of PD onset. The experiments indicate that PQ selectively kills dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and produces some of the syndrom of PD in laboratory animals. Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb761) is favourable neuroprotective agent, studies reveal it plays significantly therapeutical effects on AD. It is also reported that EGb761 has the protective effects on the injury of dopaminergic neurons induced by MPP~+. Whether EGb761 has the protective effects on the injury of dopaminergic neurons induced by PQ and whether it has therapeutical effect on PD? There...
