| Folium Nelumbinis is the dry leaves of Nelumbo nuciferea Gaertn, a species of Nymphaeacea, used as common Chinese traditional medicine. In the review, the author summarizes the recent research on chemical components and pharmacology of Folium Nelumbinis, describes the common characteristics of flavonoids as well as its pharmacological activity, and introduces the research of hyperlipidemia and fatty liver. The extraction processes of flavonoids from Folium Nelumbinis were studied. The effective extraction Processes of flavonoids are percolation with EtOH, isolation with macro resin and purification with ethyl acetate, and the technical parameter of percolation was determined, basing on orthogonal test. At the same time, A UV spectro photometry method had been developed for the determination of flavonoids, using Rutin as standard and 5% ALCL3-MeOH solution as a chromogenic regent. The results showed that the percent concentration of total flavonoids was 1.53% in Folium Nelumbinis and more than 51.95% in the extract. The security of using Folium Nelumbinis flavones was studied with the maximum toleration test. The result showed that all the observed quotas were normal and no animal died. The test showed the flavones had no apparently acute virulent function.Lipid-lowing activity of Folium Nelumbinis flavones was studied. The normal animal model and anther two kinds of hyperlipidemic animal models were used to evaluate the effects of Folium Nelumbinis flavones on Lipid-lowing activity. The Folium Nelumbinis flavones can significantly lowered the lipid components especially the cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG) and malondialdehyde (MDA), raise the LDL-C and show a very good tendency of highing HDL-C.The hyperlipidemia and nonalcoholic fatty liver animal model was established via feeding high-fat diet. We observed the dynamic variety of the hepatic steatosis at different time. Finding out the ideal animal model-making time of hyperlipidemia and nonalcoholism fatty liver.Anti-fatty-liver activity of Folium Nelumbinis flavones was studied. The result showed that Folium Nelumbinis flavones can alleviate the degree of fatty liver of thepathologic models very remarkably, and a dose-effect relation was also been found. |
