A Research On The Physiological Functions And Characteristics Of Five Zangs According To The Database Of Past Dynasties' Medical Cases

Objective: Research on the physiological functions and characteristics of Five Zangs with the help of the statistics on the first-hand clinical data medical cases.Methods: Visual FoxPro 6.0 as the development environment had been used, to develope a Chinese operation interface and related database structure. Cases of different dynasties were inputted and a digit-structured data base was established. Non-conditional logistic multivariate regression was employed for statistical analysis.Results: The common clinical syndromes, pathogeneses or pathological results, symptoms and medicine of Five Zang diseases were obtained. The pathogeneses or pathological results, symptoms and medicine for different syndromes of such diseases were also obtained.Conclusion: The physiological functions and characteristics of Five Zangs were inferred from the statistical results. (1) The different physiological functions of Five Zangs. For example, Pi has the physiological functions of transporting, distributing and transforming nutrients. Fei has the physiological functions of being in charge of respiration, etc. (2) The different Yinyang-characteristics of Five Zangs. For example, Pi has the Yinyang-characteristics of governing ascending. Fei has the Yinyang-characteristics of controlling dispersing and descending, but mainly controlling descending, etc. (3) The different Wuxing-characteristics of Five Zangs. For example, Pi has the Wuxing-characteristics of causing dampness and being disturbed by dampness easily.
