Mosla punctulata is a plant of Mosla in labiate, which distributes extensively. It is used as herbal medicine for centuries. So it has high research value. In this paper, we investigated the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of volatile oils of Mosla punctulata from two different areas —Gaogai mountain and Minhou. And it provides useful information for application of Mosla punctulata, estimation of its medical value and exploration of new medicine. The volatile oils of Mosla punctulata from two areas were extracted by steam distillation. And their chemical constituents were analyzed by GC-MS. Then the pharmacological activities of volatile oils including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antitussive and expectorant effects, excitation and depressant action on central nervous system(CNS), analgesic effects and bioactivity on the larvae of Plutella xylostella L. were studied. The main results are as follows:1. The analysis of chemical constituents revealed that the main constituents and their content of oils from different areas were significantly different. The major constituents of Mosla punctulata volatile oil from Gaogai mountain were (R)Thujone (26.11%) , (M)Thujone ( 13.66% ) , Caryophyllene ( 8.89% ) , Eucalyptol ( 7.99% ) , (R)-ct-Caryophyllene (6.45%) , Apiol (5.43%) , P-Cubebene (4.51%) , and the main constituents of Mosla punctulata volatile oil from Minhou were Methyleugenol(64.93 %), Caryophllene (9.33% ) , Humulene (6.45%) , β-Farnesene (4.63%) , Thujone (3.23 %) ,Sabinene (1.59%) ,Myristicin(1.01%).2. The pharmacological experiments of the oils indicated that: (1) The oil of Mosla punctulata from Gaogai mountain had a certain antibacterial activity against 7 tested bacterial strains in vitro, and it could inhibit pesudomones in vivo. The volatile oil inhibit the mice ear edema induced by xylem significantly as well as granuloma caused by implanted cotton ball in mice. In ventral cutis vascular capillary permeability experiment, the inhibitory rate of three dosages of the volatile oil were 33.66%, 56.14%and 78.85% respectively. It also could inhibited prostaglandin E2 in mice's inflammatory feet induced by carrageenan. The volatile oil obviously prolonged the delitescence of coughing,...
