| Background & Objective: Chronic gastritis is a common clinical syndrome, it' s outbreak rate resides the head of various stomach diseases. The disease repeats easily and again and again, and duration of the illness is longer. Chronic gastritis influences heavily the health of mankind. With the development of society, the changing of medicine mode, the quicken of life space, the strengthen of various competition consciousness , "Emotion results in stomach trouble" is more and more widespread. More and more people suffer from chronic gastritis due to incoordination between liver and stomach, which affects seriously the sufferers' quality of life. Modern medicine has certain understanding as to it' s cause and pathogenesis, but the treatment lacks specificity, as a result the curative effect doesn' t well. The Chinese Medicine cures chronic gastritis by means of the diagnosis and treatment on the basis of an overall analysis of the illness and the patient's condition, as a result the curative effect is better. My tutor, professor Huang sui-ping , cures chronic Gastritis due to incoordination between liver and stomach by unblocking liver and regulating flow of Qi, regulating stomach and dissipating sorrows. He uses the decoction of Jiawei Xiaochaihu, the curative effect of which is significant. During the period of clinical treatment, the reaction of different patient' s physiology and mental to same medicine is far different. The difference is hard to explain with medicine structure and function mechanism, but can explain from the mental and social factors. In order to overcome the faintness and indetermination of TCM, to evaluate the clinical curative effect of the decoction of Jiawei Xiaochaihu completely, we use the SF-36 health survey scale to explore this drug' s effectiveness in improvingpatient's symptoms and quality of life (QOL).?Methods: There are 60 continuous cases who saw the doctor to the GuangDong Provincial Hospital of TCM and suffer from the chronic Gastritis due to incoordination between liver and stomach. 60 cases were divided into two grows. The treat group which has 30 cases was treated with the decoction of Jiawei Xiaochaihu, qd, while the control group which has also 30 cases was treated with the capsules of Omeprazole, 20mg, qd. This course of medical treatments is 4 weeks. According to some related articles and principles, we designed the questionnaire and asked the patients to fill in it before and after treatment. After that, we make records about every questionnaire, put the data into computer, deal with them by SPSS11. 5 software and draw the conclusions.Results: The improvement of clinical symptoms: After treating by the decoction of Jiawei Xiaochaihu, the total efficient of treat group is 90. 00%. After treating by the capsules of Omeprazole, while the total efficient of control group is 68.95%. Two groups have significant differences (X2=4. 03, P=0. 045<0. 05). The improvement of the quality of life: Apart from physical function(PF)> role physical(RP) and general health(GH), other 5 domains are significantly improved than before in the treat group(P<0. 05), which are bodily pain(BP)% vitality(VT)^ social function(SF) .. role emotion(RE) and mental health(MH). In the control group, only BP has significant improvement (P<0. 05) , the other 7 domains have no significant improvement (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the treat group has a significant improve in 4 domains which are VT, SF, RE and MH(P<0.05).Cone I us i ons: The decoction of Jiawei Xiaochaihu not only has an significant effect on relief the patient's clinical symptom, but also can improve their quality of life. Compared with the control group, the advantage is significant. At the same time, we can see that the measurement of QOL was more useful to evaluate the Chinese traditional medicine' s effectiveness.
