Objective: To examine SP and VIP in lichen planus lesions, and investigate their function in pathogenesis of LP.Methods: Use immunohistochemistry method to examine the expression of SP and VIP in lesions of 30 LP patients and 30 normal skinResults: (1)SP was distributed in lesional epidermis of lichen planus. Positive staining was observed in cell plasma. The expression of SP in normal skin were mainly stained in basal cell layer. Compared with the normal skin the expression level of SP in lesions of lichen planus was significantly higher(P<0.05).(2) Positive staining of VIP was distributed in the epidermis, while no expression or few expression mainly in basal cell layer was in normal skin. The positive rate and the expression level of VIP in the epidermis between lichen planus lesional skin and the healthy group were significant. Conclusion: The level of SP and VIP are higher in lichen planus lesions. We think the theory of neurogenic inflammation may play a patial role in the pathogenesis of LP.
