In this paper, the chromatographic fingerprint (FP) quality control methods of Flos Lonicerae and Herba Artemisiae Scopariae were established by both high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and high performance capillary electrophoresis (HPCE). An effective compound in Flos Lonicerae was isolated, and several active compounds in Flos Lonicerae and Herba Artemisiae Scopariae were determined by HPLC. This study provided new methods for overall quality control of Flos Lonicerae and Herba Artemisiae Scopariae.1.The CFP relative index (Fr) as quantitative evaluation index was used to choose CFP determination conditions. In order to reflect the water soluble and fat soluble ingredients, the HPLC FPs of water extract and ethanol extract of Flos Lonicerae were established with 22 and 40 common peaks selected, respectively, both taking the peak of chlorogenic acid as reference peak. The similarities of crude drugs from different resources were evaluated in two aspects i.e. chemical components distribution proportion and their contents by various measurements. The difference between CFPs of water extract and ethanol extract of Flos Lonicerae was studied and the comparative study between Lonicera japonica Thunb. and Lonicera confusa DC. was conducted.2.The HPLC FPs of water extract and ethanol extract of Herba Artemisiae Scopariae were established with 20 and 32 common peaks selected, respectively, both taking the chlorogenic acid peak as reference peak and compared, and the similarities of crude drugs were assessed. Moreover, the crude drugs mix under the guidance of CFP were studied.3.The HPCE FPs of Flos Lonicerae and Herba Artemisiae Scopariae as a novel quality control method were studied, established and evaluated while the effects of different background electrolytes, separation mode and pH on the electropherograms were discussed. 4.An effective compound, 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid in Flos Lonicerae were isolated and identified. And the HPLC methods for the quantitative determinations of 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid and chlorogenic acid in Flos Lonicera, chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid in Herba Artemisiae Scopariae were developed and applied to determine those constituents in crude drugs.
