Objective To investigate the the influence of tendon length in bone tunnel on tendon-bone healing when using Achilles' tendon autograft for ACL reconstruction.Methords Sixteen adult mongrel dogs were divided into four groups with four dogs in each group.Each dog underwent ACL reconstruction using Achilles' tendon autograft in the left hind leg with the tendon length in bone tunnel 5 mm 10mm 15 mm? 20 mm in the four groups respectively.Each free tendon end was fixed by sutures,and tied to post screws at both the femoral and tibial tunnel outlets after transplantation.After six weeks the same surgery was done in the other hindleg of each dog.Six weeks after the second surgery each dog accepted euthanasia.After HE and Masson staining the histological observation was conducted for the healing of tend to bone.
