[Objective] To investigate PTEN protein expressions in bladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC) and normal bladder tissues and to evaluate its significance in biological behavior of the bladder tumor.[Methods] Expression of PTEN was detected in 60 specimens of bladder tumour and 10 specimens of normal tissue by using tissue microarray and immunohistochemistry test (Maxvision ). [Results] The positive rate of PTEN was 100% (10/10) in the normal bladder tissues while it was 46.7% (28/60) in bladder transitional cell carcinoma and it had statistical significance (p<0. 01). Expression of PTEN in grade I and grade II BTCC was respectively 75. 0% (15/20) and 40. 9%(9/22), and in grade III tumor, it was 22.2%(4/18). Statistical analysis revealed that the positive rate of PTEN in grade Il and Ill was significantly lower than that in grade I (P<0. 05), but there was no significant difference between grade II and III (P>0. 05). In different clinical stage, the positive rate of PTEN in superficial and invasive bladder tumor was respectively 62. 5% (20/32)and 28. 6% (8/28), the marked difference was seen between them(P < 0.01). Expression of PTEN in those tumors with lymph nodes metastasis 10%(l/10) is obviously lower than those...
