Objectives: To evaluate the effect of carvedilol in treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy , and to investigate the improving degree of heart function in different heart failure state. Methods: From January 2005 to January 2006, selected 24 patients with dilated cardiomypathy admitted in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital had been retrospectively registered. The study patients were divided into two groups by the therapies they received, in which there was carvedilol or not. All of the two groups were followed-up; the information documented includes LVDd, EF%, major adverse cardiac event, and the health-related quality of life of patients. The data was analyzed with SPSS, and the statistical significance was defined as P<0.05. Results: There was no significant differences on the base between the two groups. The data is in Gaussian distribution. The percents of patients with improving EF% is 64.7% in carvedilol group and 71.4% in control, and the difference between them is no significance. But in the part of improving EF%, the percentage of large improvement degree in carvedilol group is higher than the percentage of the control, and it is significant (P<0.01). The admission rates in half a year are 35.5% in carvedilol group and 57.1% in control, and the difference between them is significant (P<0.05).Conclusions: carvedilol is effective in improving heart function of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy. The early does the patient receive carvedilol, the better.
