Holmium: YAG Laser Lithotripsy For The Treatment Of Ureteral Calculi (Report Of 320 Cases)

Objective To evaluate the endourological treatment for the ureteral calculi with holminm: YAG laser.Methods 320 Cases (211 males and 109 cases females,with an average age of 39, and 135 cases in the right ureter, 175 in the left and 10 in the bilateral side) of ureteral calculi underwent holminm: YAG laser lithotripsy. In which 92 in the upper,80 in the middle and 158 in lower ureter.Results 307 cases of them were treated successfully in-site with the cure rate of 95.94%(84.04% in upper ureter, 99.16% in mid- lower tract of ureter). The mean operation time was 25 min,1 case with the complication of false passage under the mucous membrane of ureter occurred during the course operation. No performation occurred ,and the mean hospital time postoperation was 1.8 days.The stone-free rate was 98.75% during the postoperative followup of 2 weeks to 4 months. Conclusions Treatment of ureteral calculi with holminm: YAG laser lithotripsy has been safe effective and less invasive. This method reduces the lenth hospitalization . It should be the first choice of the treatment for the middle and lower ureteral stone.
