Objective:(1)To evaluate the efficacy of photorejuvenation on treating the various types of melasma. (2) To choose the suitable type among three clinical types of melasma treated by photorejuvenation. (3) To observe the side effects of the photorejuvenation on treating melasma. (4)To afford the clinical epidemiological information of melasma. Methods:The patients with melasma were examined and treated according to the diagnostic criteria at Shenzhen bo'ai hospitol and Shenzhen Fuhua hospitol between March and November ,2005. To observe the skin of melasma by Wood's lamp, seventy-nine patients were divided into epidermal type, dermal type and mixed type. All patients were treated with photorejuvenation. The efficacy of every patient was evaluated by the method of evaluation score and satisfactoin survey. The SPSS 11.0 statistically analyzed the data. The significant difference was P<0.05. Result:Treated five times by photorejuvenation, with evaluation score, the efficacy of epidermal type was superior to the other two types(t=2.68, 2.82, P =0.013, 0.006, respectively). The mixed type and dermal type had no significant deference (t=0.19, P=0.848). But the degree of satisfaction of three group had no significant deference (X~2=3.20, 4.48, 0.147, .P=0.202, 0.106, 0.929, respectively). The main side effects were erythema and thin scab, the scarce side effects were swollen, pigmentation and hypigmentation. These side effects were acceptable. There were epidermal type 49.4%(39/79), dermal type 17.7%(14/79), mixed type 32.9%(26/79).
