Objective To study the efficacy, early complications and the management of endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST), endoscopic papillary balloon dilatation(EPBD) and endoscopic nasobiliary drainage(ENBD) for common bile duct stones. Methods 63 cases of common bile duct stones were assigned to the group undergoing endoscopic therapy. The diagnosis was established by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP), and then EST or EPBD was performed according to the patient's condition. Results The successful rate of diagnosis ERCP was 96.8%. The successful rate of EST for removal of common bile duct stones was 97.6% and the one time successful rate was 85.7%. The successful rate of EPBD for removal of common bile duct stones was 93.7% and the one time successful rate was 80%. ENBD was used in all of the patients. The general incidence of complications was low. Hyperamylasemia occurred in 8 cases and fever occurred in 2 cases which perhaps had the infection of biliary tract. There's no hemorrhage and duodenal perforation. The mortality of post-ERCP complication was zero. Conclusion Endoscopic therapy for common bile duct stones is a miniinvasive method. It is very effective and has less complications. It provides a good condition to treat cholelithiasis in combination with common bile duct stones by laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
