Codonopsis Wall. belongs to the family of the Campanulaceae. There are about 40 species of Codonopsis Wall. all over the world, and (they are) mainly distributed in Mideast Asia. China is the centre of the diversity and 39 species have been found in Southwest China. Among of them, about 9 species and 5 varieties have been found in Guizhou. This thesis presents relatively systematic taxonomic studies on Codonopsis in Guizhou, including survey on documents, morphology and formation of the coat of seed. Meanwhile, the contents of lobetyolin of herbs which were from different species, medicinal parts and habitat mentioned above were determined. Field investigations, specimens of collection and taxonomic identification were employed. Two new spcies of Codonopsis Wall. plants have been found in Mt. Fanjing and Weining. At the same time, two new records of spcies of geographic distribution to Guizhou were found. The taxonomic researches on the Codonopsis of Guizhou were made through specimens identification and open field survey. The new keys for identification of their botanical morphology were provided. Moreover, 4 species claimed distributing in Guizhou cannot be proved. We found most species of Codonopsis Wall. could be specified by the characteristics of seed's coat, and the key for identification of seed's coat as well as photomicrograph were also presented. Both methods provide a reliable basis for classification of Codonopsis plants or seeds. The contents of lobetyolin which are in 8 species of Codonopsis and 1 species of Campanumoea were determined by HPLC. The results showed that all of them contain lobetyolin, but it could be observed that the variations of content are in different species, medicinal parts , habitat and phenological periods.
