Translation And Application Of Tinnitus Handicap Inventory In Chinese Version

Objective: To translate tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) into Chineseand evaluate its quality through clinical use and analysis.Method: 199 patients reporting tinnitus as their primary compliant orsecondary to hearing loss were sampled as study participants. They wereinterviewed with THI Chinese version by investigators and accepted ear andhearing assessment. Data were analysed.Results: The split-half reliability was 0.88, test-retest reliability was 0.98,Cronbach'sαwas 0.90.These results proved the THI Chinese version hadgood reliability. The THI scores were significant difference in the subjectsbetween outpatients and inpatients. There had significant improvement aftertreatment in inpatients group. The THI scores were highly correlated with thehearing loss level of the worse ear.Conclusion: THI Chinese version has good reliability and responsiveness.Total score of THI was strong recommended in research and in clinical practice. Objective: Using disability adjusted life year (DALY) method to assessthe disease burden of hearing loss in 15 years and older population of JiangsuProvince. The findings will give some help for the future health strategy.Methods: Using the probability proportion to size (PPS) method,6587people over 15 years were investigated in 40 clusters in Jiangsu Province. Getthe data of the prevalence of hearing loss of each age group. Input populationand disease information to DISMODⅡsoftware. After getting the parameters,DALY can be calculated basing on the formula.Result: It was found out that 376.6 thousand health life years were lostdue to hearing loss in 15 years and older population in Jiangsu Province, inwhich male lost 196.9 thousand years and female lost 179.7 thousand years. Itwas 205.8 thousand healthy life years for moderate hearing lose, 170.8thousand healthy life years for severe and profound hearing loss. There was6.42 health life years per 1000 subjects per year lost resulted from hearing lossin Jiangsu Province. Male lost 6.72 years per 1000 subjects per year and femalelost 6.11 years per 1000 subjects per year. There was 1.30 health life years perpatient lost in his life resulted from hearing loss in Jiangsu Province.Conclusion: The DALY of each adult hearing loss patient is not too large.The total DALY due to hearing loss of the population in Jiangsu Province can not be neglected. The government should pay more attention to hearing loss. Itis necessary to carry out some activities to prevent hearing loss.
