Object: expression of eIF4E,COX-2 in nasopharyngeal carcinomatissue were tested to find the relationship between them and thebionomics of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Method: eIF4E,COX-2 expression level were detected in 97 poorlydifferentiated NPC tissue and 20 normal tissue by immunohistochemicalmethod.Results: the positive rate of eIF4E and COX-2 were 89.7%and85.6%in NPC group, which were significantly higher than that in thenormal group((P<0.05). The eIF4E positive rate had no significantcorrelation with T stage, cervical glands metastasis, and clinical stage ofNPC (P>0.05); while the COX-2 positive rate had distinct correlationwith the T stage, cervical glands metastasis, and clinical stage of NPC (P<0.05); There was no significant correlation between eIF4E and COX-2expression levels in NPC tissue.Conclusion: The high expression of eIF4E in NPC tissue suggests itmay be a potential tumor genetic mark of NPC. The correlation betweenexpression levels of COX-2 and the T stage, cervical glands metastasis,and clinical stage of NPC make it possible to predict the biological behavior and metastasis potential of NPC. No distinct correlation betweeneIF4Eand COX-2 expression level in NPC tissue was found.
