Abstract:Objective To analyze the association of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) gene+869 polymorphism and serum level with essential hypertension and renal injury. Methods The polymorphism of TGF-β1 gene +869T/C were analyzed by sequence speclfic primers-polymerase chain reaction (PCR-SSP) methods in 172 patients with essential hypertension and 86 healthy controls, and the serum level of TGF-β1 was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results The EH with renal injury group showed significantly higher serum levels of TGF-β1 than control group (P<0.01), while the serum levels of TGF-β1 shows no significantly different in other two groups; The TGF-β1 gene +869T/C polymorphism in EH with renal injury was significantly different with the other two groups. The relative risk suffered from essential hypertension with renal injury of C allele was 1.90 times of the T allele (OR=1.90, 95%CI: 1.24-2.92), while there has no significant difference in the other two groups. In control group, CC type showed significantly higher serum levels of TGF-β1 than TT and TC type. (P<0.01)Conclusion TGF-β1 gene +869T/C polymorphism is associated with essential hypertension with renal injury, and C allele may be a risk factor for essential hypertension with renal injury; The serum level of TGF-β1 is also associated with essential hypertension with renal injury. The two associations have no relationships with blood pressure.Graduate student: Hui-Sheng Chen (Cardiology)Directed by Prof. Qi-Yi Zhang...
