Objective To study the diagnostic value of MRI and MRV in cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.Methods 22 cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis were investigated.There were 10 males and 12 females with an average age of 39.4 years.Course of disease varies from 1 week to 3 month.All the cases were studied with PHILPS NT-5 0.5T MRI system,scanner with quadrature head coil,section thickness was 5mm with an interslice gap of 1mm,matrix size was 256×256.sagittal and axial spin echo(SE)T1-weighted images(TR/TE=520/120ms),axial fast spin echo(TSE)T2-weighted images(TR/TE=3600/15ms)and axial fluid attenuated inversion recovery(FLAIR)(TR/TE=8000/150ms,TI=2000ms)were used as routine.One of the case was investigated in a 20-day interval,contrast-enhanced was performed in 6 cases,axial, and sagital T1-weighted images obtained after injection of Gd-DTPA(0.1mmol/kg)。2D-phase contrast venography was performed in 14 cases.Results The lesions which were detected by MRI include:6 cases of superior sagittal sinus,9 cases of transverse sinus,5 cases of superior sagittal sinus,transverse sinus involved simultaneously,1 cases of sigmoid sinus,transverse sinus involved simultaneously,1 case of sagital sinus,inferior sagital sinus,straight sinus,confluence sinus involved simultaneously.MRI can display the flowing void effect of venous sinuses to disappear, thrombosis signal of different period were shown in the cerebral venous sinuses.Indirect sign: cerebral edema,cerebral infraction,cerebral hemorrhage and so on.The morphology of sagital sinus,inferior sagital sinus,transverse sinus,sigmoid sinus,straight sinus,confluence sinus can be visualized by MRV,and the high intensity of blood flow in venous disappeared when venous sinus thrombosis.14 cases were confirmed diagnosis by use MRI and MRV.Conclusion MRI and MRV are highly sensitive to cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, they can reveal the direct or indirect signs in the early stage,reflect the pathological developments,evaluate the therapy effects.MRI combined with MRV is an ideal strategy to diagnose cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and has significant diagnostic value in the cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.
