Objective To acquire the data of brucella cellular fatty acids(CFAs);To probe into the possibility of utilizing CFAs information in typing brucella. Methods 90 brucella strains were subjected to study CFAs.All experimental strains were inoculated on Brucella-Agar plates for 48 hours. After that, cells were harvested, saponificated, methylated and extracted to provide fatty acids methylesters for gas-chromatography analysis. Based on the CFAs data matrix, dendrogram of 90 experimental strains was generated by SPSS 11.5 software package. Results Gain CFAs information of 90 brucella strains.90 brucella strains were divided into 5 clusters. The 1st include some of Brucella abortus;some of Brucella melitensis;some of Brucella suis;Brucella neotomae;some of Brucella ovis;some of mutation Brucella abortus and some of mutation Brucella melitensis. The 2nd include some of Brucella suis;some of Brucella ovis and some of Brucella melitensis vaccine strains. The 3rd include some of Brucella melitensis;some of mutation Brucella melitensis and some of brucella canis. The 4th is some of brucella canis. The 5th include some of Brucella suis;some Of Brucella melitensis(bv1);some of Brucella abortus(bv1)and some of mutation Brucella melitensis. Conclusions CFAs information can be used in brucella typing and the categorization problem of mutation Brucella strain can be solved by this typing tool.Brucella suis and brucella canis can be distinguished by CFAs data of 19:0CYCLOω8c,18:1ω7c and 16:0.Brucella canis include 2 biovars at least that is confirmed by results of CFAs typing.High homologization of Brucella abortus(bv3)and Brucella abortus(bv6)is confirmed by results of CFAs typing.
