Zhejiang Jumi, almost made from the bud of Chrsanthe memindieum, has beenused as a kind of drinks in Zhejiang Province for a long time. Jumi has antibacterial,anti-inflammatory activities and plays protective roles in liver diseases, and it isespecially efficient treatment of hypertension and vision feebleness.Flavonoid is one kind of components with a wide range of bioactivities inCompositae. This study established a method and a extract process for determining thetotal flavonoid content in Jumi quickly and accurately by choosing and changing theterms of extracting method.3 compounds fortunellin (1), 5-hydroxy-4'-methoxyl-flavone-7-O-α-D-galctoside(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside (2) and norartocarpetin (3), were obtained from the plantby applying many isolation methods such as solvent extraction, column chromatographyand so on. Among the 3 compounds, norartocarpetin (3) were obtained for the first timefrom Compositae.Furthemore, the antioxidant activities of the extracts from Jumi were studied bytheir effects on DPPH free radial and ferric reducing antioxidant power. The resultsshowed that the antioxidant activities of all extracts evaluated against DPPH radical inthe order: the butyl alcohol extract>the water extract>the chloroform extract, and onlythe butyl alcohol extract has the antioxidant activity by FFRAP assay.
