【Aims】To study the relationship between the serous adiponectin and the degree of atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetes, and to explore the correlation between the factors affecting the process of the atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetes and the serous adiponectin.【Methods】33 normal control subjects(NC group), 61 type 2 diabetes subjects without atherosclerosis(NAS group),67 type 2 diabetes subjects with atherosclerosis(AS group) were recruited.The intimal medial thickness (IMT) of dorsalis pedis artery were measured by using B-mode colorful Doppler ultrasonography. The study also collected the venous blood, assayed the serous adiponectin and other metabolic indices.【Results】(1)Compared with NC group and NAS group ,the IMT value was significantly increased in AS group(P<0.01, P<0.01 respectively),but the serous adiponectin value was significantly decreased in AS group (P<0.01, P< 0.01 respectively).(2)The study determined the serous adiponectin as the dependent variable, and also determined IMT,BMI and TG such three indices as the covariates,the aim was to eliminate the influence of covariate by the statistics. After the analysis of covariance ,the adjusted serous adiponectin value in AS group was also less than NAS group and NC group respectively ,which showed significant difference between them(P<0.05, P<0.01 respectively).(3)Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that IMT,TG,BMI,SBP,PPG,UA were the main independent negative relative factors influencing serous adiponectin concentration,the ranking was IMT>BMI>PPG>TG>SBP>UA.【Conclusions】As an excellent objective index of atherosclerosis, IMT showed obvious negative association with serous adiponectin. Serous adiponectin concentration can be an important predictable factor of the insulin resistance and atherosclerosis, which may also be the objective index to evaluate the degree of insulin resistance and atherosclerosis indirectly.Adiponectin may play an important role in clinical therapy by its character of protecting blood vessel in future.
