Objective: To study the changes of plasma glucose and lipd levels in- non diabetic relatives of type 2 diabetes families in Uygur nationality. in urban Kashghar Methods: Sixty nine type 2 diabetes families were investigated in urban Kashghar ,Xinjiang. According to the status of relationships by consanguinity, 539 non-diabetic subjects were divided into four groups: (1) first-degree relatives group (sibling, filial and parental group) n=195;(2) second-degree relatives group n=153; (3) third - degree relatives group n=32; (4) Spouses of pedigree members served as control group n=159. The levels of plasma glucose and lipids were compared in four groups. Results: There was no difference of plasma glucose, triglyceride, HDL-C and total cholesterol levels in four groups . but body weight, BMI and LDL -C levels were higher in first-degree relative group than that in other three goups and had statistical difference (p<0.05). Conclusion: Different degree of abnormalities of glucose and lipid metabolism may exist in non-diabetic relatives of type 2 diebetic families. .Early intervention on body weight and lipid abnormalities are mandatory for the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
