Objective: This study mainly proves that there is specificity among different acupoints and the relationship between acupoint specificity and meridian and nerve segment, and briefly analyses the mechanism of acupuncture treatment on primary dysmenorrhea. Methods: Sanyinjiao (SP6) and Xuanzhong (GB39) are on the same nerve segments, but they are not on the same meridian. 60 cases of patients with primary dysmenorrhea were divided into two groups at random, one group were acupunctured Sanyinjiao (SP6) as the experiment group; the other group were acupunctured Xuanzhong (GB39) as the control group. Meanwhile, we chose 30 healthy women at random to acupuncture Sanyinjiao (SP6) as the normal group. We observed the changes of pulsatility index (PI), resistance index (RI), the ratio of systolic peak and diastolic peak (A/B) of volunteers'uterine artery flow of the three groups immediately after acupuncture and compared the experiment group with the control group. Conclusion: After experiment, the data of the therapy group and the normal group decreased greatly, but the data of the control group didn't show remarkable change. The experiment group was superior to the control group on improving the uterine artery flow of the patients with primary dysmenorrhea (PD). The result shows us that there is specificity among different acupoints, it also proves that acupoint specificity has a close relationship with meridian. We can also guess that the mechanism of acupuncture action of primary dysmenorrhea is related to the improving of uterine artery flow of the patients. The research provides a reliable basis for the theory of acupoint specificity.
