This paper deals with systematic species investigation and quality evaluation of Rosa rugosa in Shandong- province. Origin, botany, drug identification, physical - medical identification and components analysis were all evaluated so as to provide referencial information for herbal market.Based on systematic cultivation of Shandong Rosa rugosa, scientific morphology recording of various samples, Pollen morphologic palynology, peroxide enzyme polyacryamide gel molecular study and specific taxonomy study were made. Drug identification, water contents, ashes contents, abstracts contents of Ethanol and violate contents determination were made. GC-MS method was also used to analyze violate components.In addition, effects of species and manufacturing methods on water contents, ashes contents, abstracts contents of Ethanol and violate contents were determined, GC-MS was used to analyze constituents of violate.The results indicate that Rosa rugosa in Shandong province was a particular species, pollen morphology, surfacial ornamentation of pollen and enzyme marks varies greatly and can be a ruler to distinct different species. Drug shap, water contents, ashes contents, ethanol abstract contents, violate contents of different species samples or different manufacturing methods have significant difference. Constituents of violate of different species samples or samples by different manufacturing methods have certain difference. It takes for granted that the two samples of "Chuantong" and "Fenghua" are the better of all samples.The study will provide scientific data for species determination and quality estimation of Shandong Rosa rugosa and will provide indication for manufacturing and regulation.
