Objective: To find a better method of anticalcification of valved bovine jugular vein conduits(VBJVC),we used acompound method of glutaraldehyde(GA)and heparin treatment on VBJVC,with animal subcutancous embedding experimental calcification model. Methods:The 12 valved bovine jugular vein conduits(VBJVC) were divided into tow groups:A groups-valved bovine jugular vein conduit (GA)and heparin groups, B groups- glutaraldehyde(GA) groups. In the in vivo experiment,12 rabbits were randomly divided into 2 groups with 6 rabbits each group. The 12 VBJVCs were randomly embedded in the bodys of the 12 rabbits respectively, and then the VBJVCs were taken out at 90 days. The calcium content of the VBJVC was measured with atomic absorption spectroscopy, the same time the VBJVC were maked HE dye and Von-kossa dye. Results: A groups-glutaraldehyde(GA)and heparin groups showed less calcification singnificantly as compared with B groups- glutaraldehyde(GA) groups after 90 days implantation (mean tissue calcium content 13.92±5.03mg/g versus 34.99±12.33mg/g dry weight(,p<0.05).Pathohistologic examinations demonstrated most VBJVCs of the A groups-glutaraldehyde(GA)and heparin groups were only mild calcification(A groups:0°2, 1°3,2°1 versus B groups: 0°1,1°1,2°2,3°2.)Conclusions: VBJVC Treated with glutaraldehyde(GA)and heparin appears to have less calcification.
