Expression Of VEGF-C And VEGF-D In Esophageal Squamous Carcinoma And Its Clinical Purpose

ObjectiveEsophageal carcinoma(ES)is one of the most common malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract and greatly threatens human health and life.The mechanism of tumorigenesis remains unclear for ES.Most ES patients are already in the late stage at the time of diagnosis due to lack of specific symptoms,often with lymphatic metastasis, and cannot be treated effectively.Therefore,it is very important clinically to understand the role of lymphangiogenesis in the metastasis of ES and to search for the anti-lymphangiogenesis agents to block ES metastasis.Vascular endothelial growth factor C(VEGF-C)and Vascular endothelial growth factor-D(VEGF-D)combine their both receptor VEGF receptor-3(VEGFR-3)to promote the growth of lymphatic vessel are In this study,we aimed to clarity the relation between expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D and lymphatic metastasis in esophageal squamous carcinoma.Material and method1.The source of cases60 cases of the esophageal carcinoma tissues and 10 cases of normal esophageal tissues are from the department of chest surgery of ShengJing hospital of China Medical University from Nov,2004 to Apr,2006.2.MethodImmunostaining of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in 60 cases of carcinoma tissue respectively,and 10 cases of normal tissue as control group.3.Standard of consequenceVEGF-C expresses in the immunohistochemistry showed positive staining as brown in the cytoplasm of cancer cells.VEGF-D has the same expresses as VEGF-C.4.Statistics analysis Spss 12.0 is used to analysis the data.chi-square is used to analysis the difference between case and contral group in VEGF-C and VEGF-D respectively.A p value of less than 0.05 was considered significant.Result1.Expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in esophageal carcinoma(1)The expression of VEGF-C in esophageal cancer was much stronger than that in the normal tissue(P＜0.01).(2)The expression of VEGF-D in the esophageal carcinoma tissues was stronger than that in the non- esophageal carcinoma tissues(P＜0.01)2.Expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D with clinical pathology characteristic(1)Over expression of VEGF-C was related to the invasion(P＜0.05),the lymphatic metastasis(P＜0.05)and the pathologic grade(P＜0.05)of cancer.(2)Over expression of VEGF-D was related to the invasion(P＜0.05),the lymphatic metastasis(P＜0.05)and the pathologic grade(P＜0.05)of cancer.3.The relationship between VEGF-C and VEGF-DThe positive expressions of VEGF-C and VEGF-D were associated.Conclusion1.The expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in case and control group have a significant difference.2.VEGF-C's expressions,as well as VEGF-D,may be a biological marker in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.The expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D are related to the invasion,the lymphatic metastasis and the pathologic grade of cancer.3.VEGF-C is associated with the expression of VEGF-D.
